Elocution

By the A. D. Shroff Trust

The competition owes its existence to the person in whose memory it is conducted – the late A.D. Shroff.  Mr. A.D. Shroff founded Forum of Free Enterprise in 1956 to educate the public on economic affairs.  As President of the Forum, in August 1965 he proposed to the Executive Committee of Forum of Free Enterprise that elocution competitions be conducted for college students with the object of encouraging them to learn the art of public speaking, besides enabling them to think and speak on economic subjects. The first competition which was named after the late A. D. Shroff was held at the K.C. College of Commerce.

Since then a total of 5202 competitions have been held in colleges located in different states in which over 60,000 students have participated.  This is the 56th year of this competition. During the current year a total of 119 competitions have been held so far in Mumbai and other places.  Out of these 41 competitions were held in colleges in and around Mumbai.
